Mastering Poses Workshops with Nora & Teddi

Join Perennial teachers Teddi Hereid and Nora Groeschel for explorations into some of their favorite poses. Each exploration will incorporate vinyasa flow, postures and stretches to allow increased opening and access to the feature postures. You will learn the physical, spiritual, and subtle body benefits of the poses and walk away with a greater awareness not only of the poses, but also of yourself.

Mastering Backbends - January 31  1:30-3:30pm

Far more than simply changing the shape of the spine, backbends provide us an opportunity to more fully express our hearts.  In this workshop we will explore urdhva dhanurasana (wheel) and eka pada raj kapotasana (one-legged king pigeon) and ustrasana (camel), finding the balance between forceful effort and fearful hesitation. We will warm key parts of our bodies and use props and breath to open and expand our entire front body. You will leave with a greater awareness of these heart openers and approach them with more compassion and ease.

Mastering Inversions - February 28  1:30-3:30pm

What better way to challenge our perspectives than to turn upside down? In this workshop, we will explore salamba sarvangasana (shoulderstand), sirsasana (headstand), and pincha mayurasana (forearm stand), learning the key muscle groups used to either start an inversion practice or to strengthen and expand your current practice. While your brain is flushed with nourishing blood, the inversion practice actually quiets your nervous system, resulting in an awakened calmness. You will leave with a better understanding of inversions and more confidence incorporating them into your everyday practice.

Mastering Arm Balances - April 3  1:30-3:30pm

Arm balances provide us a great opportunity to tackle fears and doubts. In this workshop, we break down some of the most common arm balances found in the yoga practice. You will be introduced to techniques to build strength, flexibility, and form the foundation for bakasana (crow), parsva bakasana (side crow), eka hasta bhujasana (leg over shoulder), astavakrasana (eight-angle) and perhaps more if time allows!  We will learn about exciting transitions between poses and encourage all levels of practice and confidence to explore these powerful poses.
